Don't Let the Chewing Gum on Your Carpet Spoil Your Day - Removal Tips
For a lot of people, their carpet is holy ground. Because we only want the best material touching our feet, we always make it a point to make our carpets as clean as possible. We sweep and vacuum it as much as possible until we're absolutely certain that even if we roll all over our carpets without any clothes on, we would still come out more or less clean. But alas! There unfortunately are some really uncivilized members of the human race that just love to leave chewing gum signatures wherever they go. And when you find such a remembrance on your carpet you know you're in for a long day.
But should you really worry about chewing gum on your carpet? Maybe not as much as you normally would! Because here are some tips that will make you deal with bubble gum on your carpet with absolutely no trouble at all:
The first technique you can do is to try and freeze the gum! You'll need some ice cubes to make this technique work. Put them in a plastic bag (condoms without lubricant work best) and leave it on top of the gum stain long enough for it to harden. And once that nasty little piece of gum gets a bit harder, it's going to be much easier to scoop out with a spoon or spatula. It's important that the gum becomes hard enough for you to scrape it all out and make sure that the scraping you do happens slowly and surely. Most of the time this is sure to do the trick!
But if that doesn't work, there's another way for you to go! This time using the reverse end of the spectrum: heat! Now what you need is a hair dryer and a plastic bag. The first thing you have to do is to point your hair dryer directly at the gum and discharge insane amounts of heat onto it. Be careful with your carpet though! When the gum melts just stick the plastic bag onto the mess and pull it up. It won't remove the gum 100% in most cases but at least you'll have a much smaller problem to deal with.
So chewing gum on you carpet shouldn't be the end of your home maintenance life. There are other ways to remove that nasty piece of gum on your carpet, which may be more effective than these supplied here.
