Maid Service & House Cleaning Pembroke Pines Florida -

Monday, October 12th, 2009 by jbgloss

Sun Cleaning has been cleaning Pembroke Pines for over 20 years - here is some information from Wikipedia on Pembroke Pines:

Pembroke Pines was incorporated in 1960, and took the name Pembroke from its location along Pembroke Road and the many pine trees in the area. But the name Pembroke may date back much further. The name may have been from an early landowner from Britain known as the Earl of Pembroke.

The first inhabitants estimate in the city are American Indians that first appeared about 4,000 years ago. Skeletal remains of animal hunters dating about 10,000 years old were found around Broward County, showing that perhaps human beings have lived around here even earlier.

The town started as agricultural land occupied by dairy farms and grew after the war as servicemen were retiring, including large eastern sections that were part of the Waldrep Dairy Farm. The first two tiny subdivisions were called Pembroke Pines. One of the first homes in the city belonged to Dr. and Mrs. Walter Smith Kipnis, built in 1956. Dr. Kipnis was also the first mayor. It was then known as the “Village of Pembroke Pines” and was incorporated into a town in 1959. Builders contested the incorporation, so a legal battle was brought out concerning the boundaries of the new town that were incorrectly stated in the ballot. City services were added in the 1960s with the building of the first fire department building near North Perry Airport. However, University Drive was the western edge of habitable land for residents.

In January 1960, Pembroke Pines held another election when the town became a city. This small property was less than a square mile and was between Hollywood Boulevard and SW 72nd Avenue, and had the Florida Turnpike to the east. Pembroke Pines sought to give citizens involvement so they organized the Pembroke Pines Civic Association. The square-mile city was unable to expand due to North Perry Airport and the South Florida State Hospital. Joseph LaCroix, a developer, had his 320 acres (1.3 km2) land north of Pines Boulevard annexed to the city. This gave a new pathway to proceed westward. In 1977, a maximum security prison known as the Broward Correctional Institution was built in northwestern part and Cooper City. It has a capacity for 611 inmates and has academic programs, vocational programs, wellness education services, library services, substance abuse programs, chaplaincy services, institutional betterment programs, and many other programs. In 1980, property from Flamingo Road to U.S. 27 was incorporated into Pembroke Pines, doubling the size of the city. This expansion included the property that is currently C.B. Smith Park as well as the Hollywood Sportatorium and the Miami-Hollywood Motorsports Park. At this time, I-75 was extended through the city.

The city’s rapid population growth in the mid- to late-1990s was part of the effect of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Thousands of southern Miami-Dade County residents moved northward to Broward County, many to Pembroke Pines. The resulting boom ranked the City of Pembroke Pines third in a list of “Fastest Growing Cities” in the United States in 1999.[4] Over the years, the increase in population has caused the need for schools. In 2003, Charles W. Flanagan High School had close to 6,000 students, making it the most populated high school in Florida. In response to Broward County’s need to keep up with demands, Mayor Alex Fekete and City Manager Charles Dodge started a Charter School System. As of 2006, Pembroke Pines had the largest Charter School System in the county. The city is also home to campuses for Broward Community College and Florida International University. The city’s population has grown from (1990 pop. 65,452) to an estimated 2005 population of 148,000.

In 2001, Pembroke Pines was home to the most dangerous road intersection (Pines Boulevard and Flamingo Road) in the United States, according to State Farm Insurance.[5] A bond initiative was passed by city residents to allow the city to begin construction to redesign the intersection. The intersection has since been expanded with additional east/west Pines Boulevard lanes.

Over the past decade as developers expanded Pembroke Pines westward, more hurricanes have affected the city and its residents. In 1999 Hurricane Irene dumped up to 16 inches (410 mm) of rain in the city. The western communities, such as Chapel Trail and Silver Lakes, saw an estimated 19 inches (480 mm). Then in 2004, Hurricane Francesand Jeanne passed to the north (Palm Beach County) but brought tropical storm-force winds and left minor tree and shrub damage. The 2005 Hurricane Season left a mark on the city. Hurricane Katrina passed directly over the city as a category one storm. In its wake, it left some damage such as downed power lines and trees, especially in the Chapel Trail and Silver Lakes developments. In late October Hurricane Wilma’s eye passed about 20 miles (32 km) toward the north of the city, which saw the strongest winds its residents had experienced in decades. The strongest wind officially recorded in the city was a 92 MPH sustained wind, with a 101 MPH wind gust. Most of the city was left without power for days, lights at intersections had been destroyed, a riot at a gas station which led to it being closed, most landscaping was destroyed or damaged beyond repair, and left minor structural damage (mainly roof and screen damage). In addition, schools remain closed for two weeks.[citation needed]

Basic Tips For Maintaining Stone Flooring

Friday, September 25th, 2009 by jbgloss

Whatever thing you posses, you must take good care of it. It could be your clothes, jewels, accessories, books or the parts of your house. When we are mentioning about taking care of house stuffs, first thing that crosses our mind is cleaning. Floor is one of the most essential parts of our house and it gets dirty very quickly as people keep coming in and going out by walking on the floor. Especially, if the floor is made up of stone, the dirt gets stuck very easily. Hence proper cleaning procedure is to be adopted to clean your stone made floor. If you live in Tampa, you will find several companies that offer diverse floor cleaning tools. It is not the fact that, such products are available in Tampa only; you can find them in almost any part of the globe. But, the market of Tampa floor cleaning and Tampa stone cleaning is quite opportunistic.

If your home flooring is done with natural stones, you have to take very good care of it. It takes quite a good investment to develop such flooring and without proper maintenance such investment will go in vein. You definitely won’t let that happen. With proper stone cleaning techniques, you can enjoy new like flooring for many years. Now, the question is how you can keep your stone floor in such a good condition? Here are some vital advises that will help you in proper maintenance of your floor.

Your main concern must be fighting dirt, sand and grit. These things do the maximum damage to the stone floors, especially if natural stones are used in the construction. These particles are rough and hence cause damage to the luster and sheen of the floor. The basic tip for keeping the dirt away is using dry dust broom and mop on a regular basis. Dust must be frequently mopped and a vacuum cleaner is a good solution in this regard. However, you have to be careful to use a good vacuum cleaner so that it leaves no scratch or mark after cleaning the floor. The reason why vacuum cleaners are handy because, these tools come with several attachments and such attachments can reach delicate corners where it is not possible to clean with mere hands and broom.

You can also put area rugs or walk off mats on the entrance of your home, where the maximum dust and dirt assembles. If you put such mats over your stone floor then the loose dirt will be prevented from reaching the stone floor. However, placing a mat does not end your responsibility; you have to clean the mat or rug regularly to keep dirt out of the stone surface.

Regular mopping not only cleans your stone floor, but also makes it look gorgeous. Use a good cleaner that is not rough on the stones to clean your floor. Regular cleaning, mopping or uses of mats are very common ways to maintain stone floors in a good condition. If you take care of these simple things, you will enjoy your stone floor for long years.

Connor Sullivan hired a Tampa floor cleaning company for his parents who needed a little help with the house work. He also hired a Tampa stone cleaning company to clean the stones in his backyard patio.

10 Effective Household Cleaning Hints

Thursday, August 27th, 2009 by jbgloss

Household cleaning can often be very irritating and it can often seem like we spend all day trying to keep our house together, to only come back the next day to find our home dirty again. It’s as if we live in some twilight zone where cleaning is our eternal duty. If you experience a similar dilemma I’d like to offer to you some household cleaning hints that will hopefully save you some of the anguish of repetitive cleaning. Hopefully these hints will help you keep the dirt dogs at bay and give you a little more peace of mind before you have to do battle with them again.

Keep a Cleaning Schedule
1. When we have a cleaning schedule organizing our cleaning tasks on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis cleaning becomes a cinch! No longer will we have to stress about what needs to be cleaned, or when it needs to be cleaned, because we will know! As long as we maintain consistency with a schedule our cleaning tasks and life becomes much easier.

Organize a cleaning checklist
2. For better organizational purposes, organize a cleaning checklist with all cleaning tasks you intend to take care of that day. Check off the appropriate cleaning task once it has been finished. Having a checklist is like having a set list of goals that will keep your cleaning consistent and show you exactly what is getting accomplished.

Reduce Distractions
3. When it’s time to clean, in order to get the job done faster we need to be focused. Cell-phones and televisions can often pry our attention away from cleaning and this just increases the time we will have to spend. Anything that causes an outside distraction needs to be reduced so you can focus properly.

Scan you home
4. Before you begin your cleaning duties take note of all areas of your household that need the most cleaning. Cleaning from the areas of your house that need the most attention, and working your way down to the ones that need the least ensures long-lasting cleaning efficiency.

Organize your Cleaning Supplies
5. Have you cleaning supplies organized and ready to go in a carry-all bin. Not only does this save you time and energy of having to search around the house for the proper cleaning supplies, it also cuts your time in half by just having them and being ready to go.

Ask the Family for Help
6. When there are more hands around the house, cleaning time is drastically cut in half. Ask other members of the house to give you a hand when cleaning. To increase effectiveness and efficiency give each family member their own section of the house work from.

Listen to Music
7. To make the time go by even faster listen to music! Get a CD player, or MP3 Player and let the music guide your cleaning actions. Music can aid with just about everything and once we get into the zone you’ll be surprised just how fast you will finish cleaning.

De-Clutter
8. Make sure to always remove any clutter that might be lying around the house. Cleaning can’t begin until excess clutter has been removed. In order to cut down on the time of having to do this, I recommended putting into practice, putting items back where they belong once you’re done using them.

Alternative Cleaning Methods
9. Because many commercial cleaning agents can be hazardous to one’s health, many people often prefer to use alternative cleaning solutions. While alternative solutions may take a bit more time to use, they are often inexpensive, can be bought in bulk, and are health and environmentally friendly. Items like white distilled vinegar, baking soda, and club soda are all examples of alternative cleaners.

Floor Cleaning
10. Most of the dirt that our homes accumulate can often be found within our flooring. Maintaining consistent vacuuming and floor cleaning can prevent much of the buildup. Some people prefer placing rules such as having no shoes on the carpet or flooring to prevent dirt buildup. Most of the time it is with our shoes that dirt gets tracked into our homes, so this is actually a very good idea to use.

Hopefully this list of 10 household cleaning hints will have given you some insight into ways to make cleaning easier for you. The aim is to utilize effective and efficient methods to cut down on time spent when cleaning our house. Once we can achieve efficiency cleaning house becomes a breeze that we can knock out in no time flat.

Window Cleaning Tips

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009 by jbgloss

It’s that time of the year again; the time families all over the world gather to celebrate the holidays. It’s also the time of the year that the cleaning frenzy begins. With visitors coming in and out of homes and family members arriving for their yearly visit, the holiday season often tends to revolve around bouts of cleaning rather than eating, drinking and being merry.

Window Cleaning – Tips and Avoidance Methods

When it comes to getting your home spic and span there is nothing more tedious than the chore of window cleaning. It’s tedious, very rarely completely effective and difficult while balancing on ladders to get to those hard to reach windows.

When it comes to window cleaning there are only three real options. You could hire a window cleaner to take care of it, you could spare the additional cost by cleaning the windows yourself, or you could fit the revolutionary new self-cleaning glass.

To keep your windows looking great and streak free you will need to ensure that they are cleaned often, however tedious this may be, it is necessary to maintain the aesthetic functions of glass windows. If you are going to attempt cleaning the windows yourself the following window cleaning tips may come in handy.

Window Cleaning Products

It is best to try a few window cleaning products before you decide on a firm favourite. Options vary from store bought to home made solutions.

Many use products such as ammonia, vinegar, borax, alcohol or Epsom salts for cleaning glass. Home-made window cleaning solutions include club soda or a 50:50 vinegar and water solution which is particularly effective for really dirty windows.

One of the best window cleaning tips I can give you is to never combine an acid with an alkaline when making your own solution. Using an alkaline and acid (i.e. vinegar and ammonia) will just cause a neutralising effect and you’ll be right back where you started.

The Cleaning Process

It is best to clean your windows on a cloudy day as direct sunlight tends to dry the solution you are cleaning your windows with quicker and you’ll be left with lots of unsightly streaks and a lot less good humour than you started out with.
Before you start cleaning the windows, wipe off all excess dirt – all that dust just turns into mud once water is introduced and the windows become harder to clean. Once you have dusted, use a hose to spray the windows and then spray on your choice of window cleaning solution.

You could use a squeegee or a cloth to clean the windows, a squeegee, however, will allow you to do it in less time. Once you have washed the windows it’s time to dry them, you can do this with a squeegee but make sure that the blade is kept dry with each stroke.
A great window cleaning tip for those ambitious enough to be cleaning the interior and the exterior glass is to use different strokes on each side. By using vertical strokes on the exterior glass and horizontal strokes on the interior you’ll be able to see which side of the glass the inevitable streaks are on.
Most homeowners choose newspaper to dry the glass once clean, while it’s cheap and quite effective, newspaper disintegrates quickly and tends to leave deposits on the glass, to avoid this use a dry cotton towel. If you are using newspaper, remember to wear gloves as the ink tends to get rather messy. Once the glass is dry you can use a blackboard eraser to achieve a great shine.

Stubborn Dirt Removal

For deposits of paint, resin or glue; wet the surface and then scrape them off using a razor blade or scraper. Take care to scrape in one direction only in order to avoid scratching the surface. Important: do not use sharp implements on self-cleaning glass.

Winter Window Cleaning Tips

It’s easy to keep frost from accumulating on exterior windows during the winter by adding two cups of antifreeze or rubbing alcohol to each gallon of wash water when cleaning glass.

Avoid Window Cleaning Entirely

The best way to just avoid external window cleaning entirely is to have self-cleaning windows fitted in your home. Sound too good to be true?

Here’s how self-cleaning glass works - an ultra-thin coating is applied to the glass during the manufacturing process; this coating has two highly beneficial effects on the glass. First organic residue on the glass is broken down by the ultraviolet wavelengths in sunlight then when it rains the dirt is washed off. As the coating is hydrophilic, when rain hits the glass it doesn’t form droplets and in turn eradicates streaking. Rain water flows down the glass in a sheet and washes the dirt away. If you don’t have time to wait for the rain a simple garden hose will be just as effective.

Self-cleaning glass is making life far easier and is giving home owners many reasons to use glass in the construction of their homes. What could be better than bright, open rooms with excellent outdoor views facilitated by huge glass sheets, without having to spend your days cleaning the glass?

Having been in the glass industry for 180 years, Pilkington is recognised as the world’s technological leader in glass. Out of all of their innovative products, Pilkington Activ™ - the world’s first self-cleaning glass is one of their greatest products and is an ideal material for use in homes, businesses and public buildings around the world.
